Originally, the religions were developed with an intension to keep people honest, simple, social and with ethical values. Most of the religions were having some philosophical explanation of the customs prepared for the followers.
But it was and is a common trend that the clever and dishonest people use religions for their own purposes.
Power, wealth, money, sex - perversion etc. were the actual target of those people.
Those people were actually criminals and atheists, but pretended as the most religious persons. In many cases, they were top level king or priests.
They curved the actual rules of the religions and added/ modified many such rules in the name of prophet or God just to serve their own purposes. Different groups were developed inside the religions for that purpose.
The present day religions are actually found in that state.
Hypocrisy is the main part of such form of religions at the present time.
Science has no conflict with religions, when it is philosophy.
Science has no relation with religion, when it is distorted and just only some rituals having no philosophy behind it.

I think Science is nothing but the continuous evolution of social rituals and taboos towards rationale, through experimentation and applications.
It seems that both Science and Religion are the two interrelated conjugational phases of the mankind. One cannot grow without the other. It is our religion to nurture both science and scientific temperament concurrently.

Religion is based on faith and honesty; hence science is based on both. Therefore, science is a religion.
