I mean many a times you wish to fully formulate and refine your idea based on input you receive from a wider community as on RG who have many experts ready to contribute and offer valid criticism. However, there is some apprehension at least to my mind that it is risking your original research idea to be copied making it susceptible to publication by someone else. I would happily acknowledge the relevant RG friend whose contribution leads to value addition, but is the platform capable of preserving the connect the authorship with the originator of the question? If it does, I do anticipate our future research will be enriched, authors will look to first discuss it on RG, which infact will also be like open refereeing and the question will be like a research paper reported in an International Conference which preserves the authors' rights. May be RG opens open another Q&A header now under Authored Research Question or RG Conference input. The questions under this header be safely secured as 'Short abstracts' under that author. As an evolving process, this further gives opportunity to collaborate with the RG members who might like to contribute in a bigger way through one-to-one contact privately also. Eventually a publication might result whose authors are decided by this communication.
I too share the same apprehension, and I completely endorse the point of view and the possible solution offered by Dr. Jindal. There should be some way out so that researchers can communicate and discuss openly or privately on RG, without fearing their works and ideas being copied.
@Komarov, that option is always there and we do exploit that many times. But during formation of your idea you need an input which you wish to share by continuous exchange of supportive or non-supportive arguments. I am talking about build up process of a complete manuscript. You can of course upload on arxiv too but I think it does not draw so much of involvement.
VK, quite a very legitimate question, the safest way I think is to publish a preview of your ideas on RG - then the preview irrevocably establishes your precedence in the formulation of your idea.
Then you are free to discuss your idea and its ramifications with all, because your precedence has been once and for all been established.
(PS - Incidentally , I have done exactly that - one of the ansatzes of my forthcoming book on Time is how to resolve a seeming contradiction, never addressed in the literature, between relativistic simultaneity and brain-enabled consciousness and use of Time, and what it may mean for the nature of Time.
To wit : spin around your body axis and the left part and right part of your brain become instantaneously simultaneous with events that are however far apart in time.
This owing to the interplay of distance, time, and motion under relativistic simultaneity. When you spin around your body axis, parts of your brain move away from , say, the Andromeda galaxy, whilst the diametrically opposed parts of your brain move towards that galaxy. This makes different parts of your unitary brain simultaneous with events that are 48 hours apart (do the math, Andromeda being 2.5 million light years away) Question : How can your brain be simultaneous *at the very same instant* with events so far apart in time, and yet function cohesively within real time ? To understand the nature of time, this seeming contradiction has to be looked at & resolved, but has never been so far.)
