Sometimes, the nature of the tasks is such that, it doesn't allow us to take more than one trials e.g. we may be interested in way of response when a stimuli appears for the first time to a participant.
Are there any specific approaches that we need to follow in those circumstances? Further, is it appropriate to compare EEG for single trials across different participants.

That's not really a well framed question.
You seem to be asking what is the variance between trials (i.e. if there was none a single trial would be fine). That pretty much entirely depends on what characteristic of the signal you're looking at (e.g. ERP, ERSP, etc). There are probably any number of papers that quantify variance using whatever technique, and it is generally pretty high.
Would you quantify someone's reaction time based on a single trial?
Thanks for your response. Since you have mentioned, and I agree, that the variance between trials is usually high, even when a person is performing the same task. For the same reason, we go for multiple trials.
My experimental design has to be such that I cannot do multiple trials. E.g. I may be interested in looking into the brain Dynamics, when a novice driver drives for the first time on a given path. I cannot make him drive on the same path again, because now he knows the route. So I have to settle for a single trail.
What approach/ methodologies/ parameters of brain EEG should I consider, so that the limitation of having a single trail is accounted for to a great extent.
