Nano structures have excellent optical properties in-contrast to bulk materials. To make optical biosensors, these properties could be useful to enhance the detection of bio molecule. So Now my question how the band gap, refractive index and other optical properties could be useful to realize optical biosensors.

Analysis of material bandgap and plasmonics can be useful in these case. For example, you want absorption at particular wavelength, plasmonics structure and material properties can help to you find the particular material structure. Plasmonics resonance often used in these cases. Surface plasmon resonance is particularly trending in this field. And it depends on photo luminescence, Refractive Index like properties of material :)
