I am research scholar working on development of information retrieval efficiency of digital libraries. I found many research article where ontologies had played important role in enhancing retrieval efficiency. But how to integrate ontologies in digital libraries and how can we evaluate them? Can anyone suggest this to me?
Hello Nilesh, i believe that this questions must first consider your application domain.
The first thing that came to my mind is: Do you have a metadata standard to describe the itens on you digital library? If so, are there any available ontologies to describe their semantics?
The second thing, if do not have a metadata standard, how do you will index the itens of your Digital Library? By the abstract? The title? the whole textual information?
The third thing, you will have to choose for an information retrieval algorithm, there are several API`s available at a single Google search to choose.
To evaluate the retrieval results, the most basic and common alternative is the use of Precision and Recall.

The domain i have selected is mechanical engineering .Will be using thesaurus available in the field of mechanical to construct the ontology.
The metadata standard i will be using is dublin core.
will it be necessary to test/evaluate the pre and post stages of my experiment.
