I hope that most academic programs are continually evaluating themselves and updating their classes.
But my question is broader. How often should a major, comprehensive review be made? What things should be considered? What suggestions do you have about process?
I realize that there may be some differences in academic disciplined, based on how much the field is changing. As you reply, please tell us YOUR discipline.

I am in the field of ESL. A major review should take place every 5 years to take into consideration the changing landscape of academia. The curriculum review should take into consideration the university and country's blueprint to ensure that global standards are adhered to a certain extent. Industry needs should also be part of the consideration.

We do our curriculum reviews by programmes and these are scheduled according to the last review, which is usually every three-four years. I do hasten to add that if major deficits are found in the curriculum for any one course that these are brought to the curriculum review committee before the schedule time for programme review. I note the latter as such deficits can adversely affect students' performance as shown in these resources:
