I think this one of the most challenging era where almost all the newspapers or print media need to muddle through or struggle successfully to break even as well as to grow their profits. It is ht digital revolution that has created more challenges as well as opportunities for the print media especially the newspapers,
Newspapers still depend heavily on advertising as their main life blood for successful entrepreneurship. At the same time, there are still many old and new long term regular subscribers of newspapers especially the public and public institution. Many advertisers have remained loyal to newspapers and the news media industry has perfected its outputs especially with the introduction of color printing and digital printing systems or the cold press.
Newspapers have now become more popular because they have diversified to additional e-services which offer updates of breaking news and many hard copy or print copy readers are aware of the e-versions as additional bonus offered to them as well.
I think the internet has helped and there is a very strong convergence between the electronic media such as the internet, radio, and television with the newspaper industry. For example, printed newspapers provide inputs into radio or television programmes as well as internet blogs. In some case, electronic media houses such as radio stations have regular programmes which deal with press reviews.
These programmes usually involve reading some high lights from the newspapers and most radio or television audiences find this programme very interesting . Newspaper advertising is still much cheaper than the radio or TV adverts. I think many newspapers have folded from the industry and some have numbered their days while others are have continued to improvise by diversifying their products.
