How much does a biologist know about signal processing, machine learning, and (theoretical) computer science?Anyway, given a typical PhD student in biology, how much does he/she need to know about programming, signal processing, etc?
We (@Abdiel Jover Capote ) use something like a Raspberry Pi or Arduino to create a device that has GPS, a camera, and cell phone antenna, which could record much more information about the animal's location and activity and send it back you without as much effort. Or implement some algorithm using a drone to implement the mapping of marine areas at high resolutions (less 1m).
To track anything, you may need to focus on the relevant target and ignore backgrounds like an event-based camera. In this way, you can reduce the storage size. I would like to suggest you be at least withing the range of AI related to biology with application view point. Just to recall you that machine learning is based intermediate level mathematics, so you do need to be scare of it. I know you may be very well familiar about quad ration equations, equations of lines, slope formula, intercept, tangent, first derivative of a function, equating it to zero and applying initial conditions, ...these are fundamental mathematical concepts for playing in machine learning or artificial intelligence and I believe that biologists know it better. In my opinion, similar to a professional doctor, it can be diagnosed based on CT images. However, the profession has a specialization. The cooperation of relevant professionals is required.
