I've been using PEG 400, PEG 6000, Benzyl Alcohol and Phenoxyethanol to make mupirocin ointment but the assay value drops down to 84% in 3 month accelerated stability. Please suggest if I need to make any changes in the formulae.

Thanx a lot for your information. I do not have the facility of DSC however I think that there is an interaction between benzyl alcohol and phenoxyethanol as you suggested. Looking at some other articles also I found similar information. I'll try another batch by changing the formulae.

Test all your excipients for peroxide content. You need to use peroxide free excipients.
Also check the formulation for pH stability and optimize pH.

Im also facing the same situation with my formulations as well. Im using mineral oil and white petrolatum for ointment. But still having the problem after 3 months time in accelerated stability.

Mineral Oil and White petrolatum are not suitable for this product. We have to use Hard fat and castor oil for the formulation.
try free peroxide excipients and no need for preservation due to free from water.
