I normally use a mixture of chloroform/methanol/water in 1:1:1 ratio to extract both lipids and soluble fraction from a tissue lisate. Anyway, I wish to know if I can use a stronger idrophobic compound to enhance my lipid fraction; I was wondering if something like octanol or hexane is the right way. Did anyone succeed in using such organic solvents?
