I'm writing my literature review on PPOs now, and facing a problem of identifying the type of PPOs. I found out that there are tyrosinase, catechol oxidase, and laccase, being the 3 major PPOs.
Should I also mention other types of PPOs such as cresolase, phenolase and monophenol oxidase? Do some of them play the same role/catalyse the same reaction?

cresolases are monophenol hydroxylases. Tyrosinases show two activities, cresolase (tyrosine hydroxylase) and catecholase (catechol oxidase). Phenolase is a generic term to call of types of enzymes catalyzing phenol oxidation.
Monophenol oxidase is a confusing term. I suggest to avoid. Otherwise, other enzymes, such as the tyrosine hydroxylase involved in the synthesis of catecholamine neurotransmiters (which is an iron enzyme, not a copper enzyme) should be included.
In my opinion, PPO are not very specific for the substrates. There are some specific in some of them, but this is not general at all.
There are two categories of PPOs
1 Monophenol oxidases
2 Di- and polyphenol oxidases
Though in my view genrally PPOs do only oxidation of phenolic groups mostly in presence of oxygen. But majority of PPOs are substrate specific. Although most preferably they convert phenols to quonones.
