There has been report of lack of expression of bscp31 in Brucella ovis.
Can anyone provide me information on how many copies of bcsp31 gene is present in Brucella genome. Can the bcsp-31 gene based real-time PCR be used for determination of Brucella genome copies/ml?

The bcsp-31 gene present in the Brucella genome located in Chromosome I that encodes a protein of 329 amino acid.
Because of the genetic instability due to presence of highly repetitive sequences, the genome Brucella ovis is reported the absence of expression of the bcsp-31 gene.
In this context, kindly, refer a paper (http://jb.asm.org/content/172/12/6637.full.pdf) describing copy number determination for Brucella ovis through southern blotting. It may be useful for you.

I have gone through that paper.
As per my understanding, the expression of the bcsp-31 gene is reduced in Brucella ovis.
But, is the copy number varies among Brucella species.
Can bcsp31 based real-time PCR can be used to quantify the Brucella genome present in the sample.
