I am curious as to how long natural products (fractions and pure compounds) can be stored in various solvents, and what is the optimum storage conditions to reduce sample degradation/reactions with the solvent?
For example, how long can I store a pure compound (a peptide of ~1400 Da) in Methanol at room temperature? What about at -4 Celsius?
Would the same hold true for other solvents like H2O, Acetonitrile, DMSO, or Isopropyl Alcohol?
What risks do I run by storing my samples in Solvents?
Each peptide is different. Usually, a histidine buffer is used. Just freeze the solution until you have real stability data.
Agree with Andrei remark. Natural products and solvents are many, with different characteristics. In general peptides containing 50% and more hydrophobic residues might be insoluble or only partly soluble in aqueous solution. Similarly other organic solvents may have some role as well as temperature effect on storage product can not be ruled out.
It depends on compounds, purity of the solvent and temperature of storage.
