Vertical agriculture offers an innovative solution to reduce the pressure of cultivation on soils. The intensive use of machinery and large areas of land harm biodiversity.
The mountainous character of much of Colombia’s territory, along with the attendant climatic variations of the different vertical zones, allows for the production of an unusually wide range of both tropical and temperate-zone crops, from bananas and sugarcane to wheat, barley, and potatoes. Modern agricultural techniques are employed chiefly in those areas where they are adaptable to the topography.
Vertical farming might be one of the solutions for this problem since it uses space way more efficient. There are already examples of vertical farming in Colombia and especially in Bogota. International companies like Freight Farms which offer farming in a shipping container, AeroFarms offer vertical farming concepts, BrightFarms also offer vertical farming, Edenworks offer rooftop farming or Fujitsu offer vertical farming.
