Electrons undergo point interactions as well as continuous energy loss in a media they are travelling. I want to know how they are transported in Monte Carlo codes How the continuous slowing down is taking place in the codes, how the cross sections will change continuously?
What will be the approximations involved and how are they justified?
A detailed simulation of the life of an electron (or positron) would take huge amount of time although it has a small initial kinetik energy or thin geometries. Because of that, a "mixed" simulation scheme is implemented in some codes (p.e. PENELOPE) which combines the detailed simulation of hard events (i.e., events with polar angular deflection or energy loss larger than previously selected cutoff values) with condensed simulation of soft events.

You should also read the seminal monograph published by Martin Berger in 1963. Its title is "Monte Carlo Calculation of the Penetration and Diffusion of Fast Charged Particles."
The simplest approach is the continuous slowing down approach. Not as elaborate or as accurate as the approaches described above, but usefully accurate for most purposes.
