There are numerous diseases out there in the world that are killing people in thousands such as malaria. Ever since the outbreak of covid-19 all focus seems to be on this virus. I'd like to know your take on what's happening with other diseases in your country? Has covid-19 affected the management of other diseases in your country and how?
Stephen Taiwo Onifade, you have unveiled an important aspect of the recent days' healthcare problems. Many people are suffering, indeed, because, quite a good number of non-govt large hospitals either frankly or technically dillydallying to admit the patients without a negative RT-PCR report. Fever clinics, labs are overwhelmed. HCWs are in fear of being infected by the carriers without any symptoms. PPE supply exhausted. There are horrible case reports of the loitering of the non-COVID suspect patients.

COVID-19 affected management of other diseases . In my country , no elective procedures , no outpatients clinic . Even the patients became afraid to go to hospitals .
Just remember that number one cause of death all over the world is cardiovascular disease. However, during the times of COVID-19 pandemic these patients are not being treated as well as they should be, and underlying risk factors are not being addressed.
Compulsory lockdowns, and the resultant inactivity is leading to overweight, and obesity, not to mention many psychiatric issues.
It has seriously affected the management of other diseases and patients living with other ailment. Especially in Nigeria, some health personnel have developed fear of confronting the virus. To this end, anyone brought to these hospitals, sick, stands to receive low attention as they will straightaway assume it is the COVID-19 without having to subject the patient to examination first.
Other diseases are being assumed to be the virus and hospitals without the protective devices would not give attention to these patients.

I live in Finland. In this Nordic country COVID-19 is under control. As of today 6493 people have officially infections, 22 out of them are under intensive care and in total 306 people passed away. The focus is completely on this virus and impact of the forthcoming second wave. I saw a TV - program where politicians stated that the state emergency is over and healthcare professionals are about to be transferred back to their original duties. Despite this fact medicine and other healthcare -students have been recruited to a brand new program to train professionals to track down COVID-19. This tells me that there is going to be shortage of healthcare professionals in the near future to handle other diseases. There is no statistics out there on the evolving state of other diseases on the move. I could not find any article in English on the managing aspect of other diseases....today on the 21 May 2020.

Avoiding to see patients in the times of COVID-19 pandemic due to Coronavirus-phobia is a bigger pandemic that is plaguing the health care profession all over the globe. If not remedied quickly, its scars will be darker and bigger than the COVID-19 pandemic itself!

The health care sector is inadequate and already overburdened.
