I'm writing a paper about how social media and technology are playing a role in the rising rates of teenage depression and suicide. If anyone knows of any articles or has any thoughts regarding this subject please feel free to share!
Your view point is absolutely right that the social media as well as technology really influencing the younger generation a lot Both in the positive as well as in negative ways. In my opinion, it is because the youth are taking technology as a boon but they ignore the negative shades of it. Had they been known the negative shades of it they would be out of danger.
Though Technology gives lot of knowledge it can't replace a human being. A single man can motivate and inspire with his soothing words and can change a person who is under depression, where a computer or a message through mobile or computer can not do it. Like wise a physical touch by the intimates or bosom friends can not replace any system.
So in my opinion, though we are well advanced in technology, we need the humanity, human relationships and then only we can overcome such problems.
This is an interesting area of research. A brief look at the literature suggests that the expectation of a social media influence on depression and suicide may be harder to empirically support that we might expect. Some recent articles I can find. A very interesting and timely research. Pls keep us updated. There are some references in the IASP Statement. You may write to them whether they compile previous works on "copycat" effects.
