Same answer as in the other thread. In short, it differs because the recording process is decoupled from the playback arrangement. The recording defines a huge number of possible locations for a sound to be emanating from, and then the playback processor will try to re-create the intentions of the recording engineer, using the speaker locations as they are in that particular theater or home theater.
