It has been long known that collagen matrix can chelate with metal cation like calcium and chromium. That is one way to mix hydroxyapatite with collagen.
But for biomaterial, how exactly is the releasing curve of the ion (eg. Ca2+) from the collagen, in vitro and in vivo? Does it burst and leak very fast just like growth factor in collagen? or can it be retained and release more smoothly? Are there any studies on this?
Thank you!
