The surface porosity of nanoparticles can be increased by grafting other desired molecules to the surface. They will increase porosity and modify the surface for new nanoparticle properties.
1. Increase the size of the nanopowder particles.
2. Use a surfactant to reduce the surface tension of the nanopowder particles.
3. Use a mechanical process such as ball milling or grinding to create more surface area.
4. Use a chemical process such as etching or oxidation to create more surface area.
5. Use a thermal process such as sintering or annealing to create more surface area.
6. Use a chemical process such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to create more surface area.
7. Use a physical process such as sputtering or ion implantation to create more surface area.
8. Use a combination of the above processes to create more surface area.
Have you considered acid or alkali activation? Generally depends on the compounds and elements in your nanocomposite. Acids may remove certain compounds from the matrix, thereby givng greater porosity to it.
The template method involves using a sacrificial template to create pores in the nanopowders. For example, a polymer can be used as a template removed after the synthesis, leaving porous nanopowders behind.
