currently there is no specific data suggesting this approach. This is because the intestinal receptor density changes as the need for iron increases so even 1 tablet of ferrous sulfate is better absorbed when the iron stores are depleted in the body. Which means that it doesnot matter how much Iron you give, what matters is how much iron depletion is there and even 1 tablet suffices for that purpose.
Dear Waqas Qureshi, Thank you but How I can predict the outcome and predict what is the best dose? or I can begin with the minimum dose then increase it gradually?
CALCULATION OF THE DOSE OF IRON FOR THE TREATMENT To calculate the oral dose for 24 hours (D24) according to the patient's weight, the following formula is used:
D24 = A / BA - The dose of iron (Fe ++, Fe +++) required for adults is 200 mg per day, and to children and youth is 30 to 100 mg per day. B - Number of iron (Fe ++, Fe +++) contained per unit of presentation (capsule, tablet, 5 mL spoonful of syrup, drops / kg body weight). Calculating the parenteral dose (application period), it is possible to make the patient body weight and hemoglobin serves as an index of the degree of iron deficiency anemia, according to the following formula: A = M x (Hb1- Hb2) x 0.24 + D
A: amount of iron in milligrams (mg) M: body mass in kilograms (kg) Hb1: normal hemoglobin level: for a body mass of less than 35 kg is 13 g / dL; to a body mass of more than 35 kg is 15 g / dL. Hb2: corresponds to the patient's hemoglobin level in g / dL. D: amount of iron in organic deposits (spleen, bone marrow and liver), if the body mass is less than 35 kg is 15 mg / kg; for a mass of 35 kg is 500 mg.5
The recommended oral daily dose for the treatment of iron deficiency in adults is in the range of 150 to 200 mg/day of elemental iron.
Ferrous fumarate – 106 mg elemental iron/tablet
●Ferrous sulfate – 65 mg elemental iron/tablet
●Ferrous gluconate – 28 to 36 mg iron/tablet
As an example, a single 325 mg ferrous sulfate tablet taken orally three times daily between meals provides an oral dose of 195 mg of elemental iron per day
The dose of Ferrous sulphate is pretty much standard - 65mg of elemental iron TID. This also depends a lot on the patients tolerability- constipation, GERD being the most prevalent side effects. Ferritin is a good guide for the continuation of therapy. I generally follow the rule of 6 when repleting with iron. In 6 (to 7) days one should see reticulocytosis, in 6 weeks Hb should start improving and 6 months Ferritin should normalize. One should also keep in mind to rule out the occult bleeding as a source of iron deficiency anemia in males and in non-menstruating women.
It's a wrong direction to treat. The right treatment is to strengthen the spleen in Chinese medicine. Due to the spleen's function is to transform and transport foods to be nutrient that our body can absorb. Moreover, those chemicals are cold properties. They hurt our body's yang Qi and add more toxins to the patient's body. I attached young Qi functions and explained what is the yang Qi in the attachment. Chinese medicine has more than a couple thousand years treated a lot nowadays western medicine has no clue diseases.
Are you talking to me? We are all in the US. You should know that the high medical expenses are definitely hurt the country's future! Please watch a short video on the link!
Also, please be aware that. Here is an open space for researchers to do free discussion in order to pursue the optimal success to benefit the world and people.
It is not that we are doing a school exam here. Only limited our answer by strict following instructor's question. Even in the classroom, in this higher education emphasized scholar freedom's the US, students can give personal views, experiences, read papers to ask for a discussion. Aren't you graduated from a US high school?
I have a classmate who quitted his high-paying job from a pharmaceutical company and reentered an acupuncture school to learn. He told us that he felt the real peace and happiness in his mind. Now, he got his acupuncturist license and is happy to practice Chinese medicine.
Happy July 4th!

Daer Professor Ayesh,
For you, calculate the dose of ferrous sulfate is important or well solving the patient's problem to get out of his anemia is more important to you?
Do you only accept the answer right fitting your question or you open your mind to accept deeper and more advanced ideas to help patients better? Or, you can get both?
In my personal opinion, as a researcher, I look for cost effective and optimal benefits to the patients. That's what I learned from my industrial engineer background.
Do you notice that
The drugs caused environmental pollution and further caused people sick caught attentions on RG? If not, I can guide you to the researcher's project.
Do you know that drugs caused many medical tragedies, including organ failures that would not happen in the Chinese medicine?
Do you think that if patients do not need to get organ failures and tubes are inserted into the body is a higher realm that we all pursuing for?
If you refuse different answer and/or opinion, I feel sorry and will not come back. If you really want to help patients, or if you are a Muslim that you want to help your Muslim brothers and sisters, you are welcome to discuss how with me.
Thank you . My comment was not addressed to you, but your response is amazing, I had same question as was asked but some answers were not specific but were helpful
