For editors of scientific journals, is it a normal duration to keep authors waiting for more than 3 months for making a decision about whether thier article will be accepted for reviewing after submission?
About 95 days ago, I submitted two research articles to two seperate journals. The status of submitted articles are still "with editor". Of course, Covid-19 pandemic provided some delays in reviewing process. But even so, I think, 95 days is too long for making a decision on a submitted article to be accepted for reviewing or not.
Is there any researcher who has experienced similar situation?

I had the same situation, I sent an manuscript to the journal in February 2020, and the first review appeared only in June 2020.

I think the Covid-19 pandemic can affect positively the reviewing process. Due to lockdown and home staying facilitate the référées reviewing. Many scientist around the world reported that the sampling in field was blocked because this situation.
According to your request, may be the editor is tested + to Covid, or one of the referee.

Also the authors (like reviewers) can find more time to complete some pending articles related to their studies while sitting at home due to pandemic, and thus there could be an intensive paper submission to the journals by the authors. That's why, there could be some delays. But I am not sure. I really run out of patience for looking forward to hear new notifications about my articles from the journals. A very long 95 days have just passed only for editors decision.

I would consider submitting the research work you have to preprint servers. In so you could get more feedback while waiting for response.

If the reviewers and editors are not affected by Covid, 3 months' time is more than enough to decide on the acceptance of the paper.

Of course, 3 months' time is more than enough to decide on the acceptance of the paper, but I think it is too long for an editor to decide a paper to send to the reviewers or not. I mean that my articles wait in editor within first decision phase since 95 days.
It appears that the Editorial Board of the journal is not in order.

You are right, I sent, the article in February and until today, I have not received any results. In addition, I contacted the manager by telephone to confirm final receipt of the article…….
You must also, noted the duration of revewing process according to journal policy, number of volumes and issues. For exemple, i have published a papper (in 2014) after one year and half of reviewing.
It might have led to a slower process especially at the beginning. However, things have been getting back on track and expediting process nowadays through digital transformation services have been progressing.
I would think that reviewers have a lot more going on in their quarantined lives and that's what may have been impacting service delivery, more than the actual execution of the review.

Three months is sufficient to get a feedback on a manuscript. Some journals have maintained this policy even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. If a delay is envisaged, this should be communicated to the corresponding author as soon as possible.
Covid-19 Pandemic has less effect on the article reviewing process in scientific journals as we got enough time to review papers.
Depend on the reviewer, and traffic on site journal. My experience atleast minimum 30 days.
