Do you have articles saying that microscopic examination of thick and thin blood films are not now the gold standard for laboratory diagnosis and we should move to rapid antigen tests and nucleic acid amplification methods that play a useful role in detection of acute infection and co-infection? I would like to discuss the link of the microscopic test and clinical evidence for optimal malaria take care.

As been mentioned earlier, the microscopy is the gold standard. However, when come to Plasmodium species differentiation, molecular methods still better. Because, there are too much similarities between P. malariae and P. knowlesi.

i am guess that microscopic tests could be useful but the diagnostic and firmed tests are the serological ones

I've looked for metrics on manual microscopic examination of blood smears for malaria and have found sensitivity and specificity, but not accuracy. Any references or ideas. I know its a gold standard but I would image accuracy is close to 100% but not 100%.
