In nuclear emergency many times it is difficult to predict when irradiation took place. in such scenario how gamma H2AX assay is useful for triage application. The foci readings are completely different even for small time gap.
I cannot imagine that the gamma-H2AX assay will be of use for biological dosimetry unless the time since exposure is know. That is why the micronucleus assay, in either lymphocytes or erythrocytes, or the chromosomal aberration assay along with premature chromosomal condensation, in lymphocytes, is used for biological dosimetry.
If you want to thy it, however, here is a very easy method whereby the gamma-H2AX assay can be performed in as little as a single drop of blood.
