This question is based on the study conducted by Kavulavu et.al in 2022 entitled "Challenges facing blood transfusion services at a regional blood transfusion center in Western Kenya". According to this study, there was a 7.8% discard rate of donated blood, part of which is due to transfusion-transmissible infections (TTIs). This question seeks to assess how well West Kenya's blood screening and testing protocols to prevent TTIs in donated blood units.
