Some hospitals are attempting the "Golden Hour" after the mom gets out of the Operating Room from a Cesarean delivery. It seems that some hospitals have taken the extra step of keeping the baby with the mom from the time of the incision. How soon does the mom get the baby after a Cesarean in you institution? How long are you delaying the bath? How are you handling the delay of the bath?

In my Hospital they are together before 20 minutes and then 2 hours more (skin to skin)
At Monash Health (3 hospitals), assuming all is well with baby and mum, we place the baby on mum's chest (skin to skin) immediately after delivery. The baby then goes to Recovery with mother and we encourage breastfeeding in recovery - a midwife is dedicated to each mother in addition to the Recovery nurse. After 40 mins (or so), mum and baby then return to the maternity ward. i.e. the baby is never separated from the mother.

I am afraid that the hospital where I deliver babies does not allow babies in the recovery room so mothers are not reunited with their infants until 2-3 hours after the birth. The nursery is in a hurry to bath these babies because they are otherwise "dirty" and so the bath is done within this initial 2-3 hours.
We have the baby go to an interim nursery until the mother gets out of the OR, the rule for us is the baby can be reunited with the mom in the PACU or RR if mom is stable, and baby is stable, Dad can also hold the baby or do skin to skin if mom is unable. Research indicates that Dad's doing skin to skin facilitates pre-feeding behaviors. Most moms feel okay and we have lots who start breastfeeding in the PACU. Of course there are the moms who have a lot of n/v, but generally they can hold their baby.

About 50% of our babies born by caesarean are skin-to-skin with their mothers within 5-15 minutes of birth. The initial top-to-toe and any resuscitation is done initially, and we have a scale on the resuss machine- then straight to Mum. There may be a slight interruption for bed transfer then back into skin-to-skin during the 1 hour recovery. If mum is feeling nauseous or otherwise not wanting baby on her chest, we encourage skin-to-skin with Dad. They can stay in skin-to-skin during transfer to the postnatal ward. Babies are not bathed at all in the first couple of days, this can interfere with breastfeeding. We have an 82% exclusive breastfeeding rate on discharge.

We also advocate skin-to-skin contact immediately after cesaraen birth. Mother and baby are not separated afterwards. They leave the operation theatre and recovery together on their way back to the postnatal ward. In the recovery room they are accompanied by a obstetric nurse in the encouragement of breast feeding
In our Hospital also we keep the baby immediately after birth.we belive in Baby and mother friendly concept of keeping babies close to mother which helps both.we shift the baby with mother both in the vaginal Birth and caesarean births also.Rooming in is also good practices in the hospital.
In our hospital for cesarean section the mother has the skin-to-skin contact right after the assessment of the neonatal team, in the operative room. After that, unfortunately, they are placed together only when the mother can handle the baby and asks for the baby in the rooming-in system (usually one-two days later). For vaginal delivery they are together from delivery, until they go home
We keep the babies along with mother in the postoperative ward in maternity wing.
