I would like your comments about how much more effective you think a high pressure fog mist with .5% hypochlorite solution for disinfection would be.
Current approaches are inconsistent and frequently involve the use of garden sprayers whose droplets are inconsistent and very much larger.
Any studies of the effectiveness of droplet size?
The problem with hypochlorite is that under pressurized spray release through small nozzle openings you can have degassing of chlorine as chlorine gas, reducing your effectiveness of the solution even though smaller droplets may be more effective by increasing surface area.
No data to support in context of disinfectants but the h-p mist will penetrate better and the increased surface area will provide better coverage in still air, which should improve average kill rate if the susceptible contaminant loading is reasonably uniform. However, it will also aggravate the respiratory hazard to the applicator by raising both the count of respirable particles and the rate of evaporation of chlorine.
Dear sir. Generally, the efficiency of any dispersed aerosol (other conditions being equal) is the hire the larger is interphase area (I,e,. the smaller are droplets). Garden sprayers indeed unable to provide fine dispersion (drop size falls within the range (several millimeters-hundreds microns). The best (and simplest) practical solution is as follow- use high-pressure hydraulic mouthpiece-it provides formation of (1-10) micron droplets (that is equivalent to ~250 m2/m3 of interphase area).
