How, exactly, is liquid nitrogen in the anti-contamination chamber of my JEOL JEM-1400 transmission electron microscope supposed to prevent contamination? Contamination of what microscope part by what contaminant? What happens if you forget to refill the chamber and keep on imaging with no liquid nitrogen? And what's the purpose of anti-contamination chamber heating after you quit imaging?

Thanks in advance if you're willing to share your knowledge :)
