Chinedu Onyeke according to the Bulter-Volmer equation, when the absolute overpotential is much higher than the equilibrium potential, it is an anodic process, so the anodic current dominates and the cathodic contribution can be neglected in the Bulter-Volmer equation, whereas when the overpotential is much lower than the equilibrium potential, the cathodic process dominates and the anodic contribution can be neglected. This gives the equations of the anodic and cathodic branches in a Tafel plot. Please see attached figure. Regards!
