I'm specifically looking for a N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a nitrosamine. Its molecular weight is about 74.08 grams / mole.
I've outlined essential information about this project in my most recent questions about NDMA which includes a method that I have proposed.

I would suggest the use of GC-MS/MS, using SRM method - you'll need the help of MS facility for this, so I won't get into the details of it.
I would also use Acetone percipitaion to remove proteins instead of a filter. filters tend to absorb various compounds in a selective manner. you can then use liquid-liquid extraction and run the sample on the MS.

This problem will most likely need to combine the elements of selectivity and sensitivity. ( I suspect that you are fairly new to solving these kinds of analytical problems.)
For starters:
(1) Have you looked in the literature? (separations of your compound of interest from similar sample matrices, detection methods for your compound of interest, etc)
(2) Have you outlined the potential strategies for this separation ?
(This begins with understanding the kind of mixture and the ways to differentiate the various components of that mixture from the item(s) of interest.)
(3) Have you tried simple experiments with synthetic samples?
Scot, yes I have looked in the literature and yes I have outlined potential strategies for the separation. You can see my ideas replicated in the other questions I have asked. However, I know that I still have a lot to learn since I haven't been a scientist for very long. I always appreciate expert advice.

great! one of the experiments to do is check on recovery of the analyte especially at low levels. Sometimes the analyte gets partitioned into a component in the sample matrix and recovery goes bad at low analyte concentrations.
