How does different academic social networking sites e.g. Researchgate, helps the professionals in their work? pl. specify in what area ?

You get to identify possible collaborators for your research.

Some possibilities would be asking questions/ opinions regarding possible ways of performing research (e.g. type of metrics), finding collaborators/ networking, being up-to-date with similar researches, insight into current research interests, self-evaluation, etc.

Certainly I gain exposure for my unpublished documents but more importantly I download articles that I can use to keep my teaching current and I can create huge reference lists that help me when I develop graduate-level courses based on the current literature and not on textbooks ..:-)..
