DIBs is an acronym to pull together diversity, inclusion and belonging. Belonging – The Next Evolution Of Diversity & Inclusion. How does belonging works in diversity and inclusion?
A study conducted by LinkedIn identified that employees feel like they belong when they are: recognized, allowed to express their thoughts and have the ability to make contributions.
Mohammed Kemal - Belonging is a strength and a sense of belonging is a human need and a feeling that you belong is most important in seeing value in life and in coping with intensely painful emotions. Belonging works in diversity and makes people inclusive. Inclusion is the deliberate act of welcoming diversity and creating an environment where all different kinds of people can thrive and succeed. Family belonging, well-established interactions and work processes, mutual respect, a deep sense of familiarity, and a commitment to group decisions and actions can all contribute to greater productivity.
The sense of belonging is fundamental for inclusion.Vulnerable groups often identify themselves as "different" from others, and find their own space/place in the world only through the perception of belonging to a family, a group, a community.
I concur with all that is shared. Being represented in curriculum content also informs students' sense of belonging as their different cultural and international background are recognized and shared in the context of subject area. They are not subjected to intellectual and cultural bondage of a host country curriculum. I am sharing these resources for further insight:
