I am looking to prepare cherry decoction agar as this is the medium that CBS uses for its strains of Gyromitra. In the CBS protocol, they state that the cherry extract needs to be sterilized for 5 minutes at 102 ˚C at 0.1 atm. How do you sterilize something at temperatures greater than 100 ˚C but pressures less than 1 atm? This suggests to me that I would need a machine to heat the solution in a partial vacuum.
