I am using Aluminium as a metal for a device. How can you know the default value of the work function used during the calculation by the simulator? Please provide the path for where to get the detailed list. Also, am I able to give user-defined value?
Use the following command in a unix terminal :
sdevice -P:Aluminum
This will generate a file called models.par
In this file there will be a section called Bandap as follows:
Bandgap
{ * For conductors Band Gap is zero and the following parameters are used:
WorkFunction = 4.1 # [eV]
FermiEnergy = 11.7 # [eV]
* for backward compatibility Chi0 could be used to define the work function.
}
Here you can modify the value and then make sure to use this file in your sdevice simulation.

Arnab Biswas S K Mohapatra Can we change the workfunction of the metal in this way because workfunction of metal is supposed to have a fixed value..If we change it the material will change..Also when you are changing the workfunction from its default value is the convergence error problem not coming in your way??Because I changed just workfunction of gate metal in this way in a previously converged program and suddenly just because of that changed workfunction it is showing convergence error problem.
Do you know why WF of Silver in Sentaurus is 5.1eV and not standard 4.2 eV? the same about Nickel (4.25 eV in Sentaurus vs standard 5.01 eV). Thanks,
