In the information technology new generations of computers especially the PCs are produced. This is also valid in the communication technology which is changing in high rate from the first generation to the fourth in about two decades. Also the software programs operating them are changing also with the same rate. This is in the benefit of the vendors. In contrary, the consumers must pay the bill of the new products while their preceding products are still usable. I agree to affect changes and produce new generation of technologies but in a wise manner to avoid losses for the society and wasting of its resources.
Changes are needed but by this the optimum utilization of usable products, softwares can not be done. I am still using windows xp knowing the fact that there is no security updates after this April.
But about Technologies like communication schemes need to be changed because it increases the no. of users and also power efficient.

The rate of producing new generations of electronic communication and information technologies is too fast from my point of view. New versions of computers are produced every two years. Yes.the new generations are stronger than their predecessor. Their processing power and their memory is nearly doubled. Operating system software changes in the same pace. It is the will of the humans to speed up their development by introducing new stronger tools and equipment for better life. I agree that the humans develop themselves but in a affordable pace for the bulk of the people.
From economical and environmental point of view this too fast change in generations of equipment may not be the optimum one, since the new generations render the older obsolete. So, very usable resources will be converted automatically into waste. I have the feeling that we produce the computers to throw them in the waste container. From my point of view this is nonsense.
Could not we think about the optimum pace for the electronic generations evolution?
It may come the time to be forced to make our mind.
In spite of the importance of this question only it received only one answer. I call my dear colleague to share their opinion in this topic.

Creative Destruction is essential for facilitating INNOVATION.
This was first discussed by Joseph Schumpeter in his book: The Theory of Economic Development (1934)
He argued the new products & technologies make others obsolete through creative destruction.
According to Moore's law, the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles approximately every 18 months, this means computation power is doubled or the size of computers decreased by half each 18 months, or you can say the prices of computers should be decreased for the older versions.
However, this does not imply that the older versions should be replaced, if they work fine and perform the tasks for which they bought.
there is a trend among youth racing on buying new pcs, mobiles, with latest technology, even if they do not need all the associated functionality. this remind me of my question, which was deleted by RG, which is "Do we need/use all technology we buy?" I guess no, we should buy what we need, otherwise it is a waste.

As long as new technologies are driven by business we will continue to have this acceleration. Though many will argue that more benefits are brought by new electronics, communication equipment and the new computing machinery I totally agree with Prof. Zekry on bad impacts on environment and economy, at least on the personal level. I think no one wants, especially some one like Prof. Zekry and all of the academia sector, to stop the evolution but we need to have measures to control its bad impacts. For example, in the near future, we might end up with millions of small battery powered sensors distributed every where with lots of research in the area but less research on the possible impacts. Similarly, the evolution of mobile generations resulted in lots of technologies that all contributed to more energy consumption. The trend in communication and wireless networking continues to favor the need for more capacity and higher rates. Hence, nowadays, lots of research to produce futuristic 5G or beyond 2020. Though no final definition on what this %G can be the expected increase of bytes exchanged over the networks is huge together with expected growth of equipment that can communicate. Hence, we will have to connect any thing any time any where to any other thing/time/place. This raised the energy problem more, and there is a need for more efficiency in communication with such huge traffic and interconnected things. PCs as well are developing fast rendering many old pcs useless and even more expensive to maintain. Again, trend to develope newer products, systems and generations can have profound impact on human kind in many ways but it should be controlled some how, the minimum of which is to enforce ethical business/ technology standards that at least prevent dumping newer products before being fully matured or abandoning support to older systems.
