Dear @Ziad, This is a very important question because almost every publication has its unique process. However, there are some similar outlines; it begins by determining the open problem, solving it, writing it, and beginning the process of publication by sending it to a proper journal.

Yes Ziad. I usually follow the steps you mentioned. I add to them pilot study if required and I add also the statistical analysis, dependending on the nature of the research.

You have yourself given good hints towards conducting scientific research. I am not repeating what you and others have very ably pointed out about the issues and contents to be focused on. But I would add that before undertaking research, the researcher must read very extensively on her/his subject. The pattern of issues will thus naturally flow and come out.

There should be no short-cut to this process. I consider this to be a very critical process as it gives a very articulate understanding of the issues and their inter-connection.

This is the job of the Principal Investigator of the research project.

Ph.D. candidates and Post-Doctoral Fellows ought to take advantage of this exercise and be trained in writing independent research grant proposals, since later on they are going to be handling such a task.

That is true. I make sure that they know this by making them write a proposal first. I have attached the presentation here for the purpose. They are explained the various steps involved so also how to do each of the steps. We also give them a proposal guidelines document to make sure that they do that before proceeding with the research process.

Today was the last day of classes for the Spring Semester at AUST.

One of my classes was Solid Mechanics, which is taught to the undergraduate sophomore students, and I had completed the course material during my last lecture. So, in this final lecture, I decided to give the students as an exercise the question "How do you conduct scientific research?" The class was divided into groups of 3 or 4 students and the students were asked to go to the library and do the exercise in 30 minutes then return to class with a one page summary of their findings. Amazingly, they all did well hitting the major steps taken in a research project! That was very rewarding and promising!!!

Scientific research involves a systematic process that focuses on being objective and gathering a multitude of information for analysis so that the researcher can come to a conclusion. The process focuses on testing hunches or ideas in a park and recreation setting through a systematic process. The scientific research process is a multiple-step process where the steps are interlinked with the other steps in the process.

The first step is to Identify the problem or develop a research question and then

2) Look for similar studies that have been conducted.

3) Clarify the problem by identifying the purpose of the study.

4) Concepts should be defined more narrowly which makes the scope of the study more manageable for the programmer, making it easier to collect the necessary data for the study.

5) Evaluate the feasibility of testing/formulate the hypothesis. One should be relatively certain that an experiment can be set up to adequately test the hypotheses with the available resources. Therefore, a list should be made of the costs, materials, personnel, equipment, etc., to be sure that adequate resources are available to carry out the research. If not, modifications will have to be made to design the research to fit the available resources.

6) The Development plan serves as the road map for the entire study, specifying who will participate in the study; how, when, and where data will be collected; and the content of the program.

All the efforts and resources dedicated to the above steps to research process will culminate in this step. The researcher finally has data to analyze so that the research question can be answered. In the development plan, the researcher, specified how the data will be analyzed. The researcher now analyzes the data according to the plan. The results of this analysis are then reviewed and summarized in a manner directly related to the research questions. The scientific research process requires to dedicate time and effort to the planning process. One cannot conduct a study using the scientific research process when time is limited or the study is done at the last minute. Researchers who do this conduct studies that result in either false conclusions or conclusions that are not of any value to the organization.
