I have recently submitted my M.Engg thesis and feeling so happy and blessed. The current happiness level created a question in my mind, which is shared here.
Please share your feelings also.
How do you compare the feelings between the birth of your 1st baby with the 1st research/thesis (i.e. MS/PhD) publication?

My wife completed these two beautiful achievements in a week. On 19.05.2015 she defended her M.Sc. Eng. defense and our baby has come on 27/05/2015 exactly on my Birthday. No word was suitable to express such Rahmat (Kindness) of Allah Subhanah Talah. What do you say Sania Binte Mahtab Mam.....??
First Love, Baby or research Publication, are having memorable happy fillings, for whole life, till death.......
For person who has pursuaded thesis, it becomes span of self motivation and enthusiasm. As your work accomplished and as per necessary standards, distinguish you before pursuing and after submission secenario.
Probably things makes difference and uprise your mentality and view to a particular problem.

First you cannot compare such things... they are totally different... you work you get judged... you work harder to recieve better results for ur project... and on the other hand you nourish ur kid for 9 months. .. which is equally time taking.... well one thing is common ... you need to be patient in both cases😊

I haven't submitted any final thesis work but I did experience the birth of my daughter last April, it was an amazing feeling and mostly was just happiness and all around excitement and joy.
I imagine the feeling of submitting a thesis for publication has sense of relief mixed in with joy, anticipation to see if you will get published in one or more journals.
In my opinion that is the difference between the two
That depends on your priorities... I prefer first, God; second, family; and third, work.
I experience this question as highly constructivist. It draws on the significance of two (wildly different) though not entirely separate process-oriented experiences that deeply impact one another. While research is vocation, for many people, it is also attached to calling. Conversely, parenthood (can feel like a vocation and is definitely a calling), but is an all together different phenomenon that is difficult to describe. They each come with joy, pain, and expectation that something good will come from them.
The birth of my first child and the acceptance of my first publication (I have not yet completed my doctoral studies) were both means and ends within themselves. In both instances I felt pride and fear of critique. It may be difficult for some to understand how becoming a parent a child could come with fear of critique, but the shame of using pain medication because "women all over the world do it without drugs" or to deliver via c-section, or to have become a parent by a non-biological means are often placed on a scale. The value of the means by which people become parents is often weighed by outside parties. It can be incredibly fear-inducing no matter the means by which people have become parents.
After the birth of my firstborn, I felt like nothing in the world outside of what was in that room mattered; however, my subsequent deliveries came with an intense desire to be at home together as a family. The intitial experience was joyous, but incomplete. I cannot say for sure, but I imagine that my dissertation defense will not incite feelings that "nothing in the world outside of" that room matters. It will be celebrated, but, like the births of my second and third children, I will be anxious to take my work outside of the walls of the academy and join it with other ideas and people.
I think one is non technical and other is technical. Both have different feelings.
Both are creations but of different.types

It is a very good correlation between birth of first baby and first research supervision.
