There are several complementary ways to do this:

- Run an agarose gel, check for the integrity of the RNA ribosomal bands (there should be no smear).

- Measure the absorbance in a Nanodrop or similar spectrophotometer, look for the standard values for the indexes.

- Qubit fluorometer is also used for these purposes(very helpful for us).

- If sequencing of the nucleic acids is intended, an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is the best choice.
