I would like to determine the cation distribution of spinel ferrite nanoparticle. My material is CoFe2O4 nanoparticles. As I have read, the cation distribution can be determined from XRD pattern, what is the way? From other references, the cation distribution can also be determined from XAS spectra and mousbour spectra.

You can determine the cation distribution in your system by measuring MOssbauer effect at room and 80K. By means of relative area of iron in both A and B sites you can estimat the cation distribution. For more details you are could down load my paper published on Journal of Alloys and compound, 2910 concerning the cation distribution on NiFe2O4 doped by Ga. i will upload this paper to. later. Yes you can estimate the cation distribution via XRD but with big approximation concerning the site occupancy in both A and B sites. Therefore, the Mossbauer spectroscopy could give you opportunity to confirm the estimation of cation distribution in the spinel samples especially in nano size scale.
