Flukes Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini and Schistosoma haematobium are Group 1 carcinogens.

Main mechanisms of cancer induction:

- Presence of eggs stimulates chronic inflammation – could lead to host cell DNA damage and eventually to cell transformation

- Direct damage of host tissues – also leads to inflammation

- Catechol estrogens (and their metabolites) of flukes - promote host cell DNA damage, leading eventually to cell transformation.

Virus use the cell mechanism to multiply.
