I think when looked from the Indian perspective privatization will do wonders to improve the quality of education and research. One is more accountable in the private sector than in the government one when looked in the Indian mirror. Accountability, credibility, changeability is what private sector will bring in the educational and research sectors.

Sudev Ji, I believe that because of private institutions research has been promoted and even researching skills also improved. There is one problem also, just for sake the publications they are getting publications of lower quality.

Private institutions are much stricter and pickier about the instructors and quality of the education; hence, it being more costly. Private institutions, however, are not always open about their education outcome. They want you to see the quality of the professors and classrooms, but have you ever seen a statistic about their education outcome? Public schools, on the other hand, allow a variety of teachers and professors to come into their vicinity. But they need to worry about being accredited, so their outcome is much more public. 

However you may look at it, Mr. Sudev, private schools are wonderful, but the public institution would not be the most unwise decision if you're on a budget. It depends on where you are, and who is funding the school. I vote private schools, but that is just my research. 

In India, Private educational institutions, including Universities, are increasing like any thing. Majority of the educational entrepreneurs are not qualifies and not competent.

They don't understand the importance of quality education and research. Rather they do education business for money. Charging hefty fees without providing good facilities.

We have to wait for quality of education and research --- by private institutions!

In my country there is a private university and also a public university (ex catholic portuguese university and porto university)) that on average has very good quality , because they relly on high education and research,  respect their teachers and students, try to impose only as limits the ones of science

I think the positive impacts of private universities include:

1. Provide research opportunities through available fund.

2. Provide better quality facilities for students.

3. Create a competition among the public and private universities which helps in increasing the quality.

4. Attracts industry experts to academic roles (by increasing the pay to become competitive to industry). 

I believe these are the main positive impacts of private educational institutions. 

I can not see a downside in the principle although there might be in application of the principle and that is totally different topic plus it is a case by case issue.

Here, our private universities, including foreign branch campuses, are facing financial and managerial problems.  The research performance of private universities lags behind public universities; the lecturers spend more energy on teaching and do less research.  Lecturers in private universities are less likely to publish in Scopus journals, but they may have more conference papers.  Perhaps the quality of teaching is important since students pay high fees and have high demands.  You may find the links quite interesting.  Thanks.

In Serbia, the most of private Universities, of course, not all, are money makers. There is no quality research there, just "education"! The accreditation Commission try to do some good things, but politics interfere!!!

So in my country,in general, private Universities do not contribute to the research, while they make very bad contribution to the Higher Education. There are good exceptions, such as Singidunum University! 

It takes years to transition of private University to respected private University!

The private educational institutions help to prepare and create functional and specialized scientific personnel that capable of leading the different productive activities in the community. But there are some problems (at least in my country) , such as:

1. Shortage of teaching staff in many disciplines.

2. Not having suitable places commensurate with the quantitative and qualitative development.

3. Some shortage in laboratories and ancillary equipment.

4. Instability in the admission policy in private universities and colleges annually, the high cost of university education

Education is a measure of the progress of societies. Without this precious stage in our lives we would have stayed (in the best case) but rather a lot to undo the back. From thoroughness and accuracy edukacjinych school teachers depends our fate. In Poland we have a very wise saying, "What in his youth crust soaked in old age that pokes". How simple phrase, and how very true. Therefore, the more you get married as a young man, this at a later stage of our education, we will be able to better take advantage of this time to expand and create a new basis.

It is a big problem. Private schools, of which we can speak with Mrs. Professor Barbara Sawicka, mainly Polish school. Of course, for now I consider only colleges. In our reality, unfortunately, a large percentage of them do not have adequate facilities, and I'm not talking about qualified lecturers, professors, which mainly employ as a second job. On the one hand there are financial Kożyści mainly for those, on the other hand, the achievements of workers stem the traffic of individuals who have suffered no small expense in the qualifications of its academic staff. Returning to the back, then outside the building (often rented) they have nothing.Do not conduct research, they have no experimental stations, does not promote doctors, they do not carry out habilitation proceedings. constantly, unfortunately, they feed on state institutions and their achievements. Poland does not have a free private college, even though education is free. Tuition (not small), you can hire some teachers with titles, while state schools are free, teach the same teachers and still struggling with financial problems, because so far the Ministry przeznaczało measures at a similar level for private and public institutions.

I'm not saying that private schools are bad, because we have examples from before the war, when as it was more normal (that is, from before 1939 year).

Unfortunately, the game postwar led us to such a level that God save. But to catch up so quickly that it is impossible.

In the context of western private university is widely respected, tradition and social status. With us for a long time it will not.

The Higher Education system contributes enormously to nation building given India's demographic make-up, the lacunae that we have inherited, as well as the plain fact of being a developing economy. A quick survey of chronological evolution of the two systems reveals that insularity and parochialism have stunted our growths on both the fronts. Policy makers and the government have understood our failings and weaknesses and have taken deliberate measures to rediscover ourselves as “knowledge economy”

Higher Education is vitally important activity in any modern society. However, educational institutions in Iraq are not expanding and accommodating enough for the increasing number of students. Alternative ways of providing Iraq students are access to Higher Education, e.g.  through private universities. 

The application and use of information technology in education in Iraq has been severely under-utilized for years, but there has been tremendous increase in the use of information technology during the past few years .

The following are the most important purposes related to higher education:

* It meets the learning needs and aspirations of individuals through the development of their intellectual abilities and aptitudes. It equips individuals to make the best use of their talents and of the opportunities offered by society for self-fulfillment. It depends where do you put the question. In the US there are very good private universities, which respect their level. Their diplomas and certificates are really important, and one can trust them. In Romania, on the other side, there are a lot of private universities, that almost always get a certificate if someone payed the tuition fees. It is clear that such a certificate is not too much worth... but in the world are a lot of bad state universities. Finally, the people and what do they do are more important as the administrative context of a school!

Sudev sir, I will respond with Indian perspective. Private institutions ahve emerged because government institutions were not able to scale up to the need gaps. 

But the fact remains that they are run as a commercial organisations. Which obviously means that the long term investments (at times not profitable) in research not the focus areas. I really do not know how are things across other countries. But i dotto the comments of Subhash Kundu sir. Especially from Indian perspective.

It depends on the institution and in the government policy for investment in education for that community. In my country big private universities have excellent teaching methods and almost no researches. The public schools have poor teaching and excelent research projects.

This is not true for some rich and centenary schools with great budgets for education.

"Mission Education" is not the motto of most of the private educational institutions in India.

Private institutions are mostly run for business not for social welfare of the country.

Still there are some good private institutions in India those maintain standards better than Government institutions, but charging high fee.

The main objective of all educational institutions is 

QUALITY EDUCATION

irrespective of the type of ownership.

Dear @Mario, I do suppose that private Universities in Italy have a long tradition. I hope that quality of education at private Universities in Serbia will rich certain standards, which will mean a lot for Higher Education in Serbia. We do have some very good private colleges now, but too many private institutions. It requires a lot of time, it is long term process to achieve quality in HE!

Because they are more commercial entity; less social entity!

Private universities refine existing and establish new degree programmes based on current and future educational needs. Periodic external reaccreditation reviews  supplement internal quality management and provide graduates with excellent chances for their future careers.
