I have worked with the Abaqus software for deep drawing process. I modeled the deep drawing process in the half portion about the axi symmetry. In the output, the punch force vs time curve was plotted in the software. May I take the maximum punch force directly from curve or otherwise it may multiplied with two of the punch force. I want to know the value of punch force.
In general, Abaqus extracts the contact force from its contact elements (so if half a piece only is modeled, then the reported force should be multiplied by two). One may, however, have some fun by verifying it indirectly: the punch force = the pressure on the contact area times the contact area. If 3D elements are used, then the contact area may be selected in Abaqus and the corresponding stress (normal) component should give the answer. If 2D (plane stress) elements are used, then defining a circumferential path on the piece (say, for a cylindrical piece, otherwise depending on the geometry of the formed piece) above the contact area and then extracting the stretching forces and integrating along the path should give again the answer.
Dear Bala, in my opinion it is not a half but full model with axisymmetry assumption. In that view You have obtained full punch force, not a half of it. regards
At first, the geometry is a half, the punch force obtained from FEA is half of the actual value, thereby the punch force should be doubled;
Secondly, the punch force could be obtained directly from the reference point of the punch if you modelled the punch as a rigid body, the reaction force history is available from Abaqus;
Thirdly, whether the punch force can be used directly depends on which algorithm you were used (implicit or explicit), if you were using explicit, the punch force should be processed (for example band-pass filtering), especially for the stamping process (since it is a quasi-static process)
