I would like to prepare a alkaline water (pH 8.4). I would like to reach to this pH using carbonate buffer.
I have tried using phosphate buffer but it is changing other properties, so I decided to prepare from carbonate buffer.
Please help me in this.

But i wanted to prepare carbonate buffer.
To get a 10 mM buffer solution with pH 8.4 at 25 °C you can put 9.89 mM sodium hydrogencarbonate (NaHCO3) and 0.11 mM sodium carbonate (Na2CO3).
I use a carbonate buffer made with potassium ions in order to avoid excess dietary sodium. I make a stock solution of 25g KHCO3 and 10g K2CO3. Ten drops of this in a liter of water gives me a pH 9 alkaline water with a good buffering capacity. The pH of the final water can be adjusted down by decreasing the amount of K2CO3. You can calculate the expected pH, but I found that I had to tweak the composition of the buffer empirically to get the pH I wanted.
