How do I modify the ideal diode equation to model an interband cascade LED?

For an interband cascade LED stack -- not a typical p-n junction diode but rather an n-i-n-i-n-i-... configuration -- I would like to modify the ideal diode equation so as to predict the LED's I-V behavior. Any suggestions and/or papers to deal with this? Thanks in advance.
