I need to merge ETM+ Mosaic images from different UTM zones. The problem is, I have the images in three different UTM zones (36, 37, 38). If I change the images to a common projection like "Africa_Albers_Equal_Area_Conic" the images overlay each other. If I run without changing the projection, I receive an error. I think the "merge" functionality in QGIS supports only images of the same projection.
The images have same spatial resolution and the file type is 'sid'.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to do this in either QGIS or Grass GIS?

while using UTM projection one can not mosaic images from two different UTM Zones. you can only mosaic images falling in one UTM zone.
I suggest you to convert it to geographic lat long. by using lat/long projection you can mosaic images for whole earth in a single file.

Yes Samson Singh is right the images of different UTM zones cannot be mosaiced. You reproject these images to lat long and then can easily mosaic them.
You need to work with geographical coordinates (lat, lon) to cover areas inluding more than one UTM ones.
Before generates the mosaic image, you must convert all Landsat images to Geographic Coordinate Systems (world, with datum WGS84). This procedure solves the problem of mosaicing images in different UTM zones.
