In this case you need to weigh the Day Old Chick and record the feed eaten since day 1. Say you harvested at 50 days. Then the growth rate is the weight increase in the 50 days minus the weight of the day old chick. Then the growth rate is the increase in weight over the 50 days divided by 50 days.

2. Specific

Say you want to know the data from 31 days to 50 days. Record the weight of your poultry at 31 days. Start recording the feed consumed from day 30 until day 50.Total feed consumed is the cumulative feed from day 31 to day 50, say this is X. The weight increase of the poultry is the weight at 50 days minus the weight at 31 day, say Y. FCR = X divided by Y. Growth rate from 31 days to 50 days is the weight increase divided by 20 days!

Growth rate means  average gain in body weight  for prescribed period.

Feed conversion efficiency or  Feed conversion  ratio means total feed consumed divided by total gain in weight for a particular periods.

It is very easy

Growth can be taken in growing birds only.

It can be calculated that total weight of eggs production per kg of feed during particular period of time.

It is OK, you can do all the above and calculate the FCR, and gain. I would done some thing a bit different. do all calculation on daily bases. so you have a history of the flock (Broilers) then calculate FCR, and the Gain also on Daily bases then fit an equation to the data you have for the whole period. this will help you estimate what you need if you are using a simulation model, or comparing data between to flocks. the important thing is you need also to record the Temperature inside the shed and relative humidity as well. because this may effect data form season to season. also Note that CO2 will be higher at the beginning of the run comparing to at the end of the run NH3 on the other hand will act oppositely, because of accumulated manure on the litter. you need to have all these parameters in the acceptable range or level to be sure your data representing the flock. and to do that you need to measure the ventilation rate to control CO2 and NH3 as well as Temperature.

yes ammonia is the main culprit for flock and performance.

These parameters can be calculated according to your hypothesis of your research, weekly, monthly or total period. Any parameter in the experiment used to answer a question in the research hypothesis .

You can estimate the growth rate of broiler as a difference between the final body weight and  the initial body weight divided by the period tìhat you needed to estimate( BW at 21 days - BW at 1 day)/21 days in broiler and so on in layer and broiler breeders. Feed conversion ratio can calculate via the feed consumed at certain time divided by the gain that calculated at the certain time . Whereas,in layerand broiler breeders you can replace the gain by egg mass which estimate from multiple the egg numbers by egg weights. Good luck  and fondest regard

You can  divide the whole period into starter, grower and finisher phases and accordingly measure the body weight  as described by Waleed. For feed conversion efficiency  it will be better to take hen days into consideration rather than  number of birds at start or at end.

Sorry I saw this late. All the responses given are splendid. Follow through as indicated having your experimental period in mind. It will help to know which critical periods of the production is of interest in your particular case. Remember, you can not reverse time. So plan carefully and ensure that all needed data are captured before the end of the stipulated experimental period.

Measurement of growth rate and feed conversion ratio is mostly needed to evaluate the impact of diet on the performance of the experimental animal. The weight of the experimental animal at the beginning of the experiment must be taken and as the feeding experiment commenced, the amount of feed given and the actual amount consumed will be determined daily. This is done by subtracting amount  consumed from amount given. Feed conversion ratio means total feed consumed divided by total gain in weight for a particular period. Growth rate or body weight gain is by subtracting the initial weight from the next weight.

Growth rate can be measured as daily weight gain or weight gain in a particular period. To get daily gain you need to know the initial weight of the bird (or average weight if they are a group of birds) in a particular period DIVIDED by the number of days in that particular period [(final weight - initial weight)/number of days]. Weight gain is obtained by: final weight - initial weight.

Feed conversion ration (FCR) is defined as the amount of feed a consumed by a bird to produce 1 kg gain in weight (Feed consumed/weight gain). Sometimes the term feed efficiency is used instead of FCR but feed efficiency is actually the reciprocal of FCR.

How can we calculate FPB in poultry

My way of measuring FCR is the feed consumed by the Bird at the end of the run, divided by the final body wait. that is for the birds processed and according to this growers been paid for the birds. the lowest the FCR the better is the economic returns. In New Zealand FCr 1.3- 1.4, in other countries reach up to 3.

the poultry industry’s standard performance measurement is the feed conversion ratio (FCR). Calculating FCR is as simple as taking the total amount of feed consumed by the flock and dividing it by the amount of weight gained or the number of eggs produced. In other words, FCR equals input divided by output. For broiler producers, an FCR of 1.6 means that their chickens gain 1 kilogram of weight for every 1.6 kilograms of feed consumed. The lower the FCR, the more efficient animals are at converting feed into food.
