I would like to have a fine mesh at the edge of an area in an ANSYS APDL model. I want the elements to have the same size for several rows of elements in a direction normal to the edge of the area.
I have read in the ANSYS documentation that LAYER1 and LAYER2 can be used for this in the LESIZE command. However, specifying an input for LAYER1 and/or LAYER2 doesn't seem to have any effect on the mesh. Any ideas?
I attached an image showing an example of what I am trying to accomplish.
There are a couple things that I would consider for modeling this part. First, there seems to be symmetry. So, I would model a portion of the part and then reflect it. Second, I would take advantage of mapped meshing using LCCAT command. I did a very quick test and managed to make the meshed area in attachment. Basically, I first created area 1 using KP and lines. Then, I merged each of the two mutually perpendicular lines to enforce mapped meshing. Note, I didn't apply specific line divisions here to save time. Feel free to give each line its designated divisions. Next, I used AMESH to mesh area 1. After that, I mirrored area 1 to make area 2. Finally, I used NUMMRG command to merge to coincident nodes between the two meshed areas. The benefit of mirroring already meshed areas is that their nodes and elements are also copied, hence making symmetrically meshed parts.

Mahdi Farahikia Thanks for your reply. Did you use the lesize command and do layer meshing? I'm focusing on creating layers in my mesh, regardless of the geometry of the model.
No, I didn't use LESIZE. I only used ESIZE to test my hypothesis faster. You can do LESIZE. I didn't do layer by layer meshing. Again, because I was testing the idea. You can expand on this.
