Can anyone tell me that as i have prepared five samples of 20 ppm of congo red dye and then added 1 gram of activated carbon in each of them? Then placed out from incubator at half hour gap for each .Then measured absorbance what should be the absorbance order by uv-s ? for which sample absorbance should be high ?
Actually the time gap i.e. interval that you have chosen is very large to estimate the accurate equilibrium time the samples should be tested at interval of 5 or 10 minute maximum. and regarding the absorbance surely absorbance of first sample will be higher but it depends upon the reaction time i.e. at what time your adsorption will reach equilibrium. if the maximum adsorption takes place within first few minutes the after 30 min you will get very low absorbance. hence i suggest you to carry out the equilibrium study with small time interval and you will get accurate equilibrium time. Otherwise in present case if you get 60 min as equilibrium time and if actually the equlibrium is reached at 40 min then it means that you will waste your 20 min extra in further studies and leads to increase in process cost.
The equilibrium time it is the time at which the straight line of curve become steady or start to be steady state, viz. the beginning of curvature on the plot between time and adsorbed amount at time.
