I have been researching about bacterial isolation from petroleum\crude oil contaminated soil samples. While reading the papers, I seem to notice that everyone has a different approach for isolation. The most striking was the use of soil extract as a primary enrichment culture (without addition of any extra nutrients). Does anyone has a comparative data on using soil extract for isolation versus not using it?

Should one add this method for enrichment? What does the data say about it's effectiveness?
