I extracted RNA from Tilapia kidney samples and synthesised cDNA from the RNA. I later did pcr with primers of a house keeping gene and got bands from both the cDNA and RNA though of different sizes. i got the expected 250 bp from the cDNA and 350 bp from the RNA samples

is 350 the size that you expect from dna contamination,If so either dnase your rna or amplify both band and do a gel purification of the right product.

Design your primers in a way that they only amplify RNA/cDNA and not genomic DNA; e.g. use at least one exon/exon spanning primer.

Use the Qiagen kit: RNeasy MinElute Cleanup Kit. it works really well for contamination. a DNase step is also advisable
